If we are honest with ourselves, we would recognize that Jesus would not identify with a political party, but would redefine how to approach politics as an independent. We all run the risk of taking the Lord’s name in vain by attaching him to OUR “team” and legitimizing OUR “Team” by saying Jesus would be “one of US” instead of turning around and saying, we are “WITH HIM”…. and that He defines a Heavenly Party that is NOT OF THIS WORLD….
Politics is all about how to wield POWER and where to exercise that POWER, to whom to grant and restrict PRIVILEGE, and upon whom to bestow RESOURCES. It is clear that the heavenly values system espoused in the Bible prescribes where that power, privilege and resources should be directed, and they are farther from American values than most would care to admit. The Lord HEARS the cry of the Poor. Blessed Be the Name of the Lord.
How do we approach the apportionment and distribution of resources? Do we start from an assumption of scarcity or abundance? Our starting point dramatically affects where we are more naturally inclined to lean in our hierarchy of distribution.

If we believe that resources are limited and that our situation is threatened, our inclination will be to protect ourselves and to hoard the resources that we have to ourselves and our loved ones, our tribe.
If we recognize that we have been blessed, that for us resources are abundant compared to most of the rest of the world, and that our situation is made safe and whole by a Divine Provider, that frees us to exercise generosity and overflowing kindness out of gratitude to the nourishing and sustaining Creator…
Those who recognize that they are under the dominion of Heaven and take the mantle of ambassadorship seriously will act as if they have the resources of Heaven to be extravagant toward those in need since they are not drawing from their own stores, but from the abundance which has been provided by the Creator and Sustainer of the cosmos. Those who understand that they have been blessed under the principles articulated in the Bible also know that the Chosen are blessed IN ORDER TO BE a blessing to the world.
